How to Measure and Fit Your Blinds

A Guide On How To Take Measurements Of Your Own Blinds And Fit Them To The Windows Yourself

Step 1 – Initially, you must decide where you want the blind, as there are two ways that blinds can be fitted; they are inside recess and outside recess. Inside recess blinds hang inside the recess of the window. Outside recess blinds cover the whole window and a small area of surrounding space. This is shown in Photo 1.

If you wish to modernise your blind, you can use a smart blind. You will need to think about the positioning of the remote, battery and solar panel (Not necessary). If you choose to have an electric blind, check Photo 2:

Step 2 – Make sure that when you measure the blinds you take three measurements from horizontal points and three measurements from vertical points, as seen in Photo 3.

Step 3 – If you are planning on having an inside recess blind, make sure that the brackets are far enough away from the window so that the blind does not get caught on the handle or any other protruding objects near the window.

If you are planning to have a blind on the outside recess, allow a small gap of around 5cm on the top, bottom and sides as seen in Photo 4. Make sure that you measure to where you would like the blind to sit; this is either on the window ledge or just below it, depending on the style you would like.

Step 4 – If you are using custom made blinds, put the brackets into the upper corners of the window if you are using an inside recess. If you are using an outside recess you will need to position the brackets 5cm in from the length of the blind you want.

You will need to put in more brackets if you have a larger blind.
If the blind is not custom, it will need to be cut to size; this can be done with a hacksaw and sharp scissors. Remember to mark out where you will be cutting, so the cut is clean and straight.
File the end of the blind that you cut, putting end caps on as well.
Press the blind into the brackets and clip in/screw in.
Test the blind to make sure it goes up and down properly.
Make sure that any cables are tied correctly to the side, so they are not a hazard for children.
