Questions You May Have…

How do we measure for curtains & blinds?

We take measurements at the beginning of the design process in order to give you an accurate quote, which we will then double check when the hardware is installed. If you choose to take the measurements yourself, it’s important to ensure your notes are clear – photograph and label each window. However, we are available to take measurements ourselves and happy to offer any advice should you need it.

How much fabric do you need for curtains?

Once we have the measurements and you have decided which treatment you want for your windows, we can calculate the quantity of fabric needed and let you know.

How do you fit curtains?

We offer a hardware fitting service and like to install and dress all our soft furnishings to ensure a professional quality finish.

Can you hang curtains while decorating?

We would not recommend hanging curtains while decorating because they could get damaged. We do recommend involving your decorator specialist as soon as possible in the process, for example, they can plan that an alarm isn’t situated right next to the window fittings.

The devil is in the detail...

Look carefully at the window in question – and indeed any other windows in the room as a whole. Great window treatments can improve proportions of an ordinary room or enhance spectacular spaces; they can disguise unsightly features and make odd-shaped windows match.

Things to consider - A checklist:

Are your windows regular inside the room, or would you like to make them more consistent, using window treatments?

Are your windows regular inside the room, or would you like to make them more consistent, using window treatments?

What does the window naturally lend itself to – do you want to see ornate architrave around the window or cover up some ugly radiator pipes? Do you have enough space above the window (deadlight) to install a chunky pole?

Do you want the window treatments to be understated, or could they be the focus within the room?

What fabrics are most suitable for the environment? Some fabrics tend to fade or degrade in strong sunshine.

What is to the left and right-hand sides of the window? Does it make sense for the curtain panel to stack back one way only if there is no space to one side?

Further considerations:

Do you have any suggestions you want to discuss, for example do you require darker colours because of children and/or pets? Would you like blackouts to help with insulation and intrusive light?

If decorating, how far along is the decoration? – have coving and tiles been installed (especially inside of the recesses in kitchens and bathrooms)? Have radiators and lights near to windows both in the walls and ceiling been fitted? Has the flooring been laid? These features can all impact on the treatment you choose and the measurements you take.

Curtain Questions...

Are Curtains supposed to touch the floor?

Wherever possible, curtains should hang from the ceiling or under coving to the floor. Try and avoid sill-length curtains.

How are curtains measured?

Even for dress curtains, ensure any one curtain panel is at least 1.5 widths to avoid the curtain looking skimpy.

Why are curtains so expensive?

Curtains are expensive. Most of a curtain panel needs to be handmade, and curtains require a greater fabric quantity then blinds.

Which curtains are best?

Above all, the solution for dressing the windows must be user-friendly, visually appealing and practical.
